Our 5.5 tonne excavator and skid steer suit most residential blocks, but the excavator needs more room than a mini excavator. It depends on the size of the job and your block. Under Bundaberg Regional Council’s planning scheme, small earthworks are accepted without an approval — broadly no more than 50 m³ of material, excavation no deeper than 1 m and only minimal fill. Bigger site cuts or fill need council approval, planning overlays on some land may add requirements, different rules apply to farm works on Rural-zoned land, work in the road reserve such as a driveway crossover needs council approval, and houses and most sheds need building approval through a certifier. We flag what is likely to apply at the site visit and work to the approved plans — council or your certifier gives the definitive answer.
For most residential earthworks — site cuts, pool digs, trenching, driveways, and retaining wall prep — a 5.5 tonne excavator handles the job. It suits standard suburban and acreage sites without tearing up the street or neighbouring properties, and it does the bigger jobs a mini excavator would take far longer on. Very narrow access can suit a smaller machine — we tell you at the site visit. Larger civil or commercial projects may need heavier machinery, but for residential work, 5.5T is the sweet spot.

No. We don’t dry hire: Bejay operates every machine on every job and quotes the work directly. If you want to hire a machine and run it yourself, a plant hire company is the better fit.
Yes — farm driveways and access tracks, house and shed pads on acreage, trenching for water lines, drainage, clean-ups and material delivery with our own tipper. Larger dam or broad-acre clearing jobs are assessed case by case, because some suit bigger machinery than ours. Multi-day rural jobs make the best use of travel, so tell us everything the property needs and we will quote it in one site visit.
